Autumn Announcements (Nov - Dec 2024)

As our Autumn Half Term approaches, we wanted to share with you some exciting updates to our core class programme!

From 4th November, we are delighted to welcome new classes, Gaga/people with Matteo Marfoglia and Pilates with Hannah Durkan to The Middle Floor! For one term only, Gaga/people will be replacing our regular Professional Class on Tuesday evenings.

Gaga/people

6 Week Course: Every Tuesday between 4th November - 13th December

Please note that Gaga/people will be replacing Professional Class for our Autumn Half Term.

Individual class booking available to book from 31st October!

*Please note that the class on the 19th November will not be taught by Matteo, and therefore will not be a Gaga class.
It will still be an open level session, and will utilise improvisatory techniques.

Gaga/people classes offer a framework for users to connect to their bodies and imaginations, experience physical sensations, improve their flexibility and stamina, exercise their agility and explosive power, and enjoy the pleasure of movement in a welcoming, accepting atmosphere.

Gaga is the movement language developed by Ohad Naharin throughout many years, parallel to his work as a world-renowned choreographer. Gaga classes are predicated on a deep activation of the body and physical sensations. We provide a framework for discovering and strengthening the body and adding flexibility, stamina, agility, and skills including coordination and efficiency while stimulating the senses and the imagination. Participants awaken numb areas, increase their awareness of habits, and improve their efficiency of movement inside multilayered tasks, and they are encouraged to connect to pleasure inside moments of effort.

Pilates

6 Week Course: Every Thursday between 4th November - 13th December

Individual class booking available to book from 31st October!

This Pilates class is great for all levels of experience. The class will include traditional and non traditional Pilates techniques. The aim for this class is after the 6 weeks students will gain the knowledge of the six principles of Pilates, and have improved posture and body coordination. They will be able to move through classes more freely and to feel their bodies have developed strength and flexibility.

Hannah Durkan is a dance artist that received her MA from Northern School of Contemporary Dance. After graduating she received her Pilates training through HFE. Hannah is excited to share her love of movement and all the benefits that Pilates offers. She loves to create a safe space where everyone can join in and learn more about their bodies. She is passionate about teaching people the importance of caring for our bodies and taking time for yourself.

Pop Up Workshops!

Raag Durga in Kathak | Friday 1st November | 5.45pm

This workshop teaches a beginner-level choreography in the Indian dance style called Kathak! ⁠

Get ready to learn: the foundational movements including Hastachakkras (Arm Movements), Tatkaar (Footwork) & three short technical pieces called ‘Tihaai’ to a piece of music in Raag Durga (a melodic arrangement from Hindustani Classical Music).

It is appropriate for anyone with 1 to 3 years of dancing experience. Participants do not require previous experience in Kathak.

Beginners Contemporary 

6 Week Course: Every Monday between 4th November - 13th December

Have you always wanted to learn contemporary dance? Now’s your chance! 

Beginners Contemporary is a dance class for anyone who wants to find their flow, meet other dance enthusiasts and enjoy their Monday evenings, while improving physical and mental wellbeing. You can book the 6 Week Course here for £43.20 (10% discount).

Please note individual class bookings will be available from 31st October.



Gaga/People

Gaga/people classes are open to people ages 16+, regardless of their background in dance or movement. No previous dance experience is needed. Classes last approximately one hour.

Wednesday Double Bill: Dynamic Floor & Partnerwork

6 Week Courses: Every Wednesday 4th November - 13th December

Our Wednesday Double Bill is back for the Autumn Half Term!  Classes can be booked together or separately.

Join Mara Osorioh for Dynamic Floor followed by Partnerwork with Bryn Thomas. 

Dynamic Floor is an intermediate level floor work classes aiming to develop fluidity and movement rhythms. Perfect for anyone with a background contemporary dance looking to refine technique and stay motivated. 

Partnerwork will draw on elements of contact improvisation and contemporary partnerwork. There will be a combination of improvisational scores, playful exercises and technical training. This class is ‘open level’ meaning that no matter your experience this class will be suitable for you, whether you’re a total beginner or you’ve been flying around people’s shoulders for years.

We love being a part of the dance community in Leeds, and hope you can join us for our Wednesday Double Bill. For anyone new to the dance community, our Wednesday Double Bill also seeks to help dance artists and other creatives creates meaningful connections, exchange ideas and create lasting friendships.
